Parenting

Could you be a better parent?  Of course!

Raising a child (or two or three or more!) is  a daunting task. With an incredible amount of unconditional love and hope for your children also comes challenges that you didn't know existed before your children were born.   Stress, work-life balance, developmental stages, doctors, daycare (no daycare), school systems, your own family system and support system can all contribute  to feelings of being overwhelmed and under-qualified for the job!

Though babies may look uncomplicated, infants require a significant level of attention and care in order to grow up into a healthy person. On top of the day-to-day needs that young infants and children have, each child has their own unique personality--these personalities are in part encoded within their genes, and in part shaped by their caregivers and living environment. It is the parent’s task to work with each child--and the unique personality of that child--to develop appropriate behaviors and social skills, learn life skills, and create healthy relationships. Though parenting can be difficult at times, many parents report that raising their child(ren) was the most rewarding aspect of their adult life.

We can help you learn the developmental stages of children from birth to 25.  One of the foundations of positive parenting is understanding what the child is capable of understanding and accomplishing at each given stage of life. If you are expecting a teenager to behave like an adult, you will be disappointed and feel like the child is "playing" you.  If you expect a 3 year old to be able to clean his or her whole room with no guidance or parental direction, you will be frustrated and feel like your child is just being willful.

We can help you be the parent you want to be!
